Camberley Waterstones Signing
I will be back at Waterstones in Camberley for a signing event on Friday 7th December. This is the perfect opportunity to buy those Christmas presents - and of course the fifth book, Shaman of Stonewylde, will be out! Please do come and see me.
Swindon Waterstones Signing
I will be back at Waterstones in Swindon, Wilts for a signing event on Saturday 7th July. I love this branch - they always make me so welcome and it's thanks to Vicki's pestering that I'm back here again. Does anyone know how many times I've done events in this store? Please do come and see me and tell your friends. We all know that Stonewylde books make perfect holiday reading.
World Book Day 2012

"World Book Day is a celebration! It’s a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. In fact, it’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world."
I drove down to Dorchester in Dorset (just over two hour drive) to St. Osmund's Middle School in Dorchester. I taught two lovely classes of children - in Years 7 and 8, which is 12 and 13 year olds for anyone out of the loop with the current education system. This age group is the lowest end of the suitable readership for Stonewylde, but with Yul and Sylvie starting out aged 15 and 14 respectively, they could be seen as the target audience for the series. It's funny - every time I mention the fact that Stonewylde is published as a Young Adult series, I receive irate/amused/worried e-mails from adult readers questioning this!Anyway, the two lessons went very well I think, and the children (and teachers) were lovely. I hope they gained something from my pearls of wisdom; I certainly gained from being back in a classroom again and talking to interested kids. I did a quick photo in the school library (tricky nowadays to do photos with children because of parental permission etc, so I didn't do that) and then went in to Dorchester to have coffee and some lunch with a fellow blogger from over at Loose and Leafy (from whom I'd learnt about tree following).
Next it was Waterstones - I especially love the Dorchester branch. They were the first bookshop (as Ottakers) to take Magus of Stonewylde in its old self-published incarnation, and they've always been so supportive of Stonewylde and me. The staff had dressed as characters from Alice in Wonderland for the World Book Day and there were story-telling events for younger children, a Where's Wally competition (as Mr B pointed out last night - you'd think after 25 years someone would've found the guy) and a fancy dress competition too.
It was great to sell copies of Stonewylde to St Osmund's pupils whom I'd met that morning and who came in to buy the books. I also sold lots of books to the mothers of the younger children enjoying the story-telling event, after whispering to them that actually, grown-ups love Stonewylde too. I met, amongst others, several pink princesses, some Dennis the Menaces, a knight and a Cleopatra. It was really good too to meet with the other authors there: Ron Dawson who's created the marvellous Scary Bones stories (and who had a skeleton with him as a prop) and Gill Lewis, author of the lovely book Sky Hawk. I wish now I'd got a photo of us together, but didn't think of that at the time.
Shadows at Stonewylde nominated for the David Gemmell Legend Award

Kit is honoured that the fourth book in the series, Shadows at Stonewylde, has been nominated for the David Gemmell Legend Awards for Fantasy. Kit is up against some hugely famous names, all well-respected in the fantasy genre, but to be longlisted is an honour in itself. The votes for the award are cast by members of the public, so if you'd like to support Kit and vote for Stonewylde please do it soon before the voting closes. Please note that you must click the button ABOVE the book. Larry Rostant's artwork for Shadows at Stonewylde has also been nominated in the David Gemmell Ravenheart Award.

Pagan Federation 40th Anniversary Conference
I was very honoured to be invited to this special celebratory event, held in the beautiful Royal Geographical Society buildings right next to Hyde Park. I was attending as one of the guest authors with a little signing session, but was free to enjoy the rest of the day and attend the many talks and workshops on offer. It was absolutely brilliant! I listened to Emma Restall-Orr, Caitlin Matthews and Philip Carr-Gomm amongst others, and finally got to meet one of my heroes, Professor Ronald Hutton, who gave Stonewylde such glowing reviews several years ago. We also saw our friends from the Museum of Witchcraft in Boscastle, Karen Cater of Hedingham Fair, Morgan of Pagan Dawn and Kate and Corwen of Ancient Music, to name a few. The whole day was such fun and it was lovely to be hosted for my booksigning by the famous Atlantis Bookshop. Mr B and I really had a great day - many thanks to Chris Crowley and all the hard-working organisers from the PF and see you next year!
Eastbourne Waterstone's book signing
When I was booked to do a signing event in Eastbourne a few months ago, I'd imagined that October 1st would be chilly and windy with the town battening down for winter. How wrong I was! It was a glorious day, warmer than most of the summer had been, and I had a lovely time in the Waterstone's branch with a jazz busker playing outside and people wandering around in summer clothes. It was great to meet up with several of our Stonewylde forum members who'd travelled down specially, and when the signing was over Mr B and I had a very large and decadent ice-cream and then went for a walk up towards Beachy Head, finishing our perfect day with a paddle in the sea!
Swindon Waterstone's Booksigning
The lovely booksellers at Swindon's Waterstones invited me back for a third visit! On our way down to Cornwall for a little holiday (exploring the stone circles and ancient sites) we stopped off at Swindon for a few hours to visit the shop and see Vicki and many other familiar faces. It was great to meet up with a whole band of Stonewylders who turned up to see us, and many new readers were introduced to the world of Stonewylde too.
Reading Broad St. Waterstone's Signing
I spent a morning in the beautiful Broad Street branch of Waterstone's in Reading signing copies of Stonewylde and meeting readers. I was busy chatting with a long-standing forum member (who gave me a gorgeous bracelet) when we were joined by a man I haven't seen since a parents' evening long ago in Weymouth during my teaching days! What a strange old world it is, with so many links and threads in the web. Holly who works at this branch and is now a complete Stonewylde addict looked after me and had me sign her personal copies too. Many thanks to all at the branch for hosting me.
Woking Waterstone's booksigning
Despite it being a pretty miserable Friday morning, I had a great time in the Woking Waterstone's branch and signed many copies of Stonewylde books for new readers. It was lovely as ever to see some of my original readers too - as with all my events, I can't stress enough how much I appreciate people making the effort to come along and say hi.
Guildford Waterstones writing workshop
Dorcia and David of Guildford Waterstone's hosted me for the first Writing Workshop for teens. I spent almost an hour with a lovely group of ten youngsters and had a really fun time talking about writing and doing some activities together. Other Stonewylders came along too, and I also did a quick interview for a little podcast. This was a great event and I really enjoyed working with young people again - I hope they enjoy my books as much!
